For the first time in its history, the women's team "Prometey" met in an official match with the representative of Romania. The fact that current champions of their own countries faced each other added a special interest to the starting match of out team in EuroCup Women. In terms of the fact that the intrigue of the confrontation lasted quite a long time, and from the point of the final result, the match should have been liked by the spectators, who filled the stands of the sports complex Slobozhansky in sufficient numbers. It happened even despite the fact that Prometey did not allow the opponent to lead in score at least once. But saying about the quality of the team's game actions, then both coaches after the match found complaints to their wards, but only the mentor of the guestshad really serious ones.
As for the course of the match, it was quite monotonous: at the beginning of each of the ten minutes, "Prometey" managed a serious leap, and then the Romanian team reduced the gap, but still lost a quarter. "+4", "+6", "+5", "+7" - each of these handicaps in the quarter can not be called as a big one, but all together they gave a pretty solid final 22 points. During the first 4 minutes, Viktoriia Bolshakova's team stunned the opponent with its effective series 13:1. Tree long throws at once reached their goals – by Joiner Holmes, Olga Dubrovina, Ariel Atkins. For two minutes after that, the most productive player of "Sepsi" Brianna Fraser was completely "silent", but her first two points marked the beginning of the 9:0 jerk of the Romanian champion. Sepsi's gap was reduced to four points, but at the end of the quarter Nikolina Babic managed an eggective individual passage.
After a two-minute rest, Tatiana Yurkevichus played skillfully in rivals’ "paint", and then balls thrown by Holmes, Atkins and Babic flew into the opponent's hoop from an arc, thanks to which the handicap of the "red and whites" reached 13 points, but before the big break it became three points lower.
The first three minutes of the third quarter were marked by another breakthrough of "Prometey" - 7:0, but the opponent continued to "stay in the game" primarily due to the performance of center Marina Bass and Brianna Fraser, who eventually with his 24 points managed to get close to their recent performance in the Euroleague qualification, when on average she scored almost 30 points per game.
And yet "Prometey" today was much stronger than its opponent. Apparently, everything finally became clear in the 34th minute, when after an accurate throw by Olga Dubrovina, the handicap of our team reached almost two dozen points. The whole course of the game did not hint at all that the opponent will make an impressive comeback.
"Prometey" won a historic European Cup victory, but it is only the opening game of the group round. We will have to approve it it very soon: on October 20 our team will have an away match with the well-known Hungarian Uni Gyor, which lost to Turkish Elazig 67:74 on the eve of the first match of Group B.
