After the sorrowful loss in the 7DAYS EuroCup match with German “Ratiopharm Ulm”, “Prometey” is back to the game programme of the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet for a short while. Our team is confidently leading the league with a number of 90% wins in 10 matches. The second dozen of games in the tournament they open with a confrontation with Estonian club “TalTech/OPTIBET”.

The opponent of “Prometey” represents Tallinn University of technology. The team exists since 1951 and during Soviet Union times, they 8 times became the best team in their Republic. After Estonia renewed its independence in August 1991, “TalTech” won the title of the best team of the country 4 times (in 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2003). In the club’s track record there is also a winning the Estonian Cup in 2004.

In the last season’s regular LEBL championship the next opponent of “Prometey” came fourth, after which they lost to Latvian “Ogre” in the quarterfinal. This season, the club from Tallinn is quite afar from the play-off zone: in 14th place with two wins in 9 matches. However, in all games the team let into their hoop just 27 baskets more than they scored.

“TalTech” has two bright leaders: 27-year old Latvian guard Kristaps Gluditis and 28-year-old Estonian heavy forward Oliver Metsalu. Gluditis and Metsalu open the second dozen of the best shooters of the league with 15.67 and 15.63 points per match respectively. In addition, Metsalu is the best “TalTech” rebounder – 5.5 rebounds per match. In the early November, the club signed a famous Ukrainian guard Anatoliy Shundel, who will turn 29 the  day after the match with “Prometey”. Anatoliy is just adjusting to the game schemes of his new team, however, he spent on the court 30 minutes on average in his two games scoring 7.5 points per match.

Participation of Ukrainian guard in Saturday’s confrontation is heating up interest to it. “Prometey” is considered a clear favourite of the game, however, our team more and more seldom has been defeating its rivals in the LEBL with a distinct advantage. Saturday evening will show us how it is going to be this time.
